Archetypal Stories
“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” Lao Tzu
My attempts to take us into the archetypal stories are meant to express the opportunities afforded us and offer reflections on how we may respond. Archetypes can express themselves in a myriad of ways in our lives. Each one weaves its own thread and the story emerges as the threads intertwine. Conversations that are taking place with and through the current planetary aspects speak to the overall feel of the evolutionary intent of this lunation.
Planetary configurations
Sun, Moon, and Uranus
At any full moon, the Sun and Moon are opposing each other. While the Moon is expressing the energy of the sign it is transiting, it is also in full reflection of the Sun and its given space. The Sun is in its final days of Scorpio season opposing the Moon in Taurus. Uranus retrograde in Taurus is conjunct the Moon and therefore opposing the Sun. This is impactful and powerful and possibly quite challenging.
When I feel into the emotional aspects of the Scorpio/Taurus polarity, I always come to vulnerability and trust. In our attempts to feel empowered, we often seek out connections to things and people we think can help support this. The law of impermanence is housed within Scorpio and because of this, also the emotional responses to fear of loss, rejection, and betrayal. When we have Scorpionic experiences, we retreat into Taurian self-preservation and survival mode. How do you find footing after exposure to this type of experience? How do you begin to trust again after you have been hurt?
The Sun is shining a spotlight on the depths of this exposure and the Moon is reflecting our retreat. Self-reliance is much needed in these rapidly changing times, but we must also be careful to not fall into building walls too thick and hiding from life. Uranus may be bringing memories to mind where you have felt unprotected, unsupported, when you have been hurt. You might find yourself focused on emotional self-protection. When we feel unsafe, we can find ourselves projecting, lashing out, or even attempting to control or manipulate situations or people.
Uranian experiences take us out of the present moment. This can be through remembrance of the past or glimpses into a possible future. How do you manage these types of insights or revelations? Do you lean into them and learn from them? Do you tend to dismiss them? Can you allow them to work in and through you? What type of future do you dare to envision for yourself?
I always advocate for building self-trust. Many experiences have conditioned us to doubt ourselves. People we have trusted have let us down or hurt us. We may harbor regrets about our own past decisions. Rebuilding self-trust and trust in others takes time. And it becomes one choice after another to begin the rebuilding. Choose yourself first.
Venus and the Lunar Nodes
Venus is moving through the early degrees of Capricorn and coming into a square aspect to the Lunar Nodes in Aries/Libra. We are approaching the end of our time with the nodes in this relating axis which is culminating the lessons for this chapter.
The archetypal energies of this conversation are about values, relationships, and expectations.
“When nothing is expected, and everything is appreciated, all becomes magical.” Broms The Poet, Feast. I abhorred this quote when I first read it. It came to me during the heaviest part of my deconditioning process and I remember screaming, “this is such bullshit!” I have since come to appreciate the simplicity and truth of this statement. I have always had high standards, primarily for myself, but I found that my expectations of others were often quite unreasonable. I expected my partner to ‘just know’ how to respond to my emotional states-and became apathetic when they didn’t. I expected my co-workers to notice my struggles and immediately jump in to help-and became angry when they didn’t. I expected my children to behave ‘properly’-and became frustrated when they didn’t. The major theme that these expectations had in common was that they were mine and they were unexpressed. Expectations and unexpressed needs set us up for disappointment and even resentment or contempt.
How are you aligning your values and needs to your choices? What are you learning about meeting your own emotional needs? How are you expressing and sharing them with those you trust? Can you begin to reevaluate your expectations-of yourself and of others? Are they reasonable, attainable, judicious?
I have found magic in letting go of expectations and found deep gratitude by allowing appreciation to be present in and around me.
Pluto and Mars
Pluto is ending its cycle in Capricorn. This course is coming to a close. We have read the text, listened to the lectures, written the notes and if we have studied and prepared, we are ready to approach this final exam.
We are being asked:
How do you define authority and how do you relate to it? Where have patterns and frameworks in your life become outdated and no longer beneficial? How have you detached from consensus-based realities and become your own emotional authority? And where are you going? What is your purpose?
If you haven’t been able to fully answer these questions, don’t worry. You haven’t failed at life! Just know that the next class will be accelerated and you may find yourself feeling quite lost at times. Support is available.
We have been conditioned with the focus on externalization of power, desire and willpower. Your purpose has been directed from the outside in. Mars in Leo, in this continued opposition to Pluto, is pushing back; moving the drive and desire from external focus into the will to express your destiny from the inside out.
Saturn, Jupiter, and Mercury
Saturn is stationing direct in Pisces at this lunation from its four month retrograde period. Jupiter remains retrograde in Mercury’s sign of Gemini. And Mercury is slowing to station retrograde in Jupiter’s sign of Sagittarius. These planets are in a configuration called a t-square with Saturn at the focal point. Jupiter and Mercury in each other’s signs is called mutual reception.
This conversation presents focused energy on the themes of meaning and inspiration, intuition and ideas, perspectives and truth-convergence of the narratives of our lives.
How do you connect with the adage ‘history repeats itself’? Or ‘pain runs in families until it reaches someone who is willing to feel it’? What repeated experiences have you been noticing yourself becoming discontented by? Do you feel the impetus to create much needed change?
Storytelling, songwriting, journaling, freeform prose. When was the last time you allowed yourself space to have such a creative expression? What emotions did you attempt to convey with language? Was the finished project true to your vision?
The perspectives that shaped our reality have become the stories we repeat to ourselves, often in the subconscious, and our responses are derived from them. When was the last time you allowed your opinions to be challenged? How do you respond when the truth-as you know it-is questioned? Do you fact check your own thoughts? Can you create space for the much needed reflection of: is this still true, of me and for me?
So much of our inner dialogue comes from internalized shame and blame. When the monkey-mind spins with things like ‘you’re stupid, you make dumb decisions, you’ll never get anything right’ or ‘no one likes you, you’re too weird’, pause a moment and ask yourself if that is the real Truth. When you determine that these are simply reflections of past experiences of receiving feedback, you can begin to speak differently to yourself, more kindly with more grace and acceptance. You have the power and authority to flip the script.
